Well I was able to make it through my first week. I had a lot of fun with the kids! I am really starting to get to know them and know their personalities. They are really growing on me!
It was a long week, but a fun week. I am starting to get the hang of the schedule and procedures of the classroom. The students are starting to respect me, and come to me for questions.
I am working a little more with the students with their centers. I got to play a game with them, and walk around for questions during their journal center. Then we get to go to lunch, and last week we were watching the kids while they ate, and this week we are gonna be recess duty. Math we learned about shapes some more, and how other shapes can fit into shapes. I am going to be taking over math not next week, but the week after. I am going to let Mrs. Roach finish this chapter and I will be starting Chapter 9 on Patterns. Also, I will be taking over the morning calendar next week. It all happens in little steps.
So far, I have been able to get a lot of experiences in, that I don't think many other student teachers get. Such as I am able to go to and IEP meeting on my second week. Also, I have had to say goodbye to my first student, get to know and work with parents, and attend a staff meeting. I am having so much fun! I will try to get another post up this week.

First Day
Well I survived...
My first day was a success. The kiddos didn't make me want to quit yet. I feel a little better now, that I have met the kids again. I think if I had a test I could remember most of their names.
Although I have not been in any grades lower than third, I think I can handle this. It will be a lot different but I think it isn't gonna be that bad. It will definitely teach me patience. After this I will have taught a variety... 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th.
Today was fun getting to know the campus, and their schedule. It is also giving me time to get to know my mentor teacher. We are both getting to know each other. She is super nice, she wants me to feel comfortable with the whole situation. She told me to let her know when I wanted to start doing stuff. I actually might kinda get to be alone with class Wednesday. My teacher has a doctors appointment so she will be a little late. She told the class today that she is pregnant... it was so cute. We were both a little worried about the where do babies come from question, but it didn't come up. They were telling her their baby brother and sister stories, and even giving tips on how messy babies are.
We talked a lot about their Winter Break a lot today. Catching up on the calendar and who lost teeth over the break. A lot of the kids went to Flagstaff over break to play in the snow... I am not gonna lie I am a little jealous, I want to be in the snow. In math she started the lesson with, today we are going to learn some geometry... I about went pee in my pants! Flash backs of High School geometry! YUCK! She continues and says we are going to discuss shapes. I felt a little relief... This I can handle!
Tomorrow is going to be another day, and I am feeling a little more confident. Hope everyone had a great day back from vacation, if ya got one for the holidays!

About to Begin My Student Teaching Journey
Oh man! Oh man! Oh man!
I am wanting to keep a blog to keep people up to date on this amazing adventure. I know there are so many people wanting to know how it is going. The next toughest part will be to keep it updated. You all can also call me and ask how it is going.
Well tomorrow I am going to be starting my student teaching! I cannot believe that I am old enough to educate children! I am going to be in a 1st grade classroom in the Deer Valley District. I am not sure how such a young class is gonna work, but I am sure I am strong enough to handle it. All my practicum hours are upper elementary, but it is all part of the experience. I am super excited!
I was able to go meet my class the day before they went on Winter Break. I really enjoyed starting to get to know the kiddos. The day I went to visit was the day of their Christmas party and they were ALL pretty excited about that. I believe there is about 22 students, I am not for sure because there were a few students missing.
I have also spoken to my NAU supervisor as of yesterday. It was a huge relief that she called, because I was a little worried about knowing what to do. She really calmed me down, and let me know what to expect. She told me to more think of her as a mentor, and she is there to help me. I am gonna be meeting with her on Thursday and we are gonna plan out the semester kinda.
Well wish me luck on a fun LAST first day of the semester! I cannot seriously believe it is here. I totally have this under control!
